Theme 01
Women and Girl Child Welfare
To holistically empower girls and women in Kenya by establishing an integrated, life-cycle-based development and protection framework that safeguards their rights from early childhood through adulthood ensuring their safety, health, autonomy, and full participation in society.
How We’ll Get There
Strengthening Comprehensive Child Protection Systems
- Preventing and responding to early and forced marriage, sexual exploitation, and child prostitution through community-led monitoring, survivor support services, and enforcement of the Children’s Act (2022).
- Scaling up age-appropriate, rights-based Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in schools and community spaces—aligned with UNESCO standards—to equip girls with knowledge about their bodies, consent, and reproductive rights.
Advancing Reproductive Health & Autonomy
- Ensuring adolescent girls and women have unrestricted access to youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, including contraception, safe abortion information (within legal bounds), and menstrual health support.
- Promoting bodily autonomy by challenging harmful norms that deny girls control over their health, fertility, and life choices.
Transforming Harmful Cultural & Traditional Practices
- Mobilizing community dialogues, male allies, and religious leaders to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other rites that violate girls’ rights—replacing them with alternative, celebratory rites of passage.
- Documenting and amplifying survivor voices to shift intergenerational attitudes.
Simplifying & Enforcing Legal Protections
- Translating complex laws (e.g., Protection Against Domestic Violence Act, Sexual Offences Act) into accessible Swahili/Sheng/community-language toolkits for women, parents, and local leaders.
- Training paralegals and gender desks in 20 counties to facilitate faster reporting, legal aid, and justice for survivors of gender-based violence.
Promoting Parental & Community Accountability
- Engaging parents and caregivers through “Safe Futures” dialogues to reject early marriage and FGM, support girls’ education and autonomy, and practice active digital supervision to prevent online exploitation and cyberbullying.
- Establishing community safeguarding committees to monitor risks and intervene early.
Ensuring Digital Safety for Girls
- Raising awareness on online dangers (grooming, sextortion, cyberbullying) through school programs and radio campaigns.
- Advocating for responsible digital parenting, including use of parental controls and open conversations about online behavior—while holding adults accountable for children’s digital well-being.
By addressing challenges from cradle to grave and linking protection, health, education, legal literacy, and cultural change this project will create a continuum of care and empowerment that enables every Kenyan girl to grow into a healthy, informed, safe, and self-determined woman.
